AQUAMID is a biocompatible hydrogel containing 2.5% cross-linked polyacrylamide bound to 97.5% water. It does not contain microparticles the way hyaluronic acid-based fillers do, and the polyacrylamide forms a real gel. Polyacrylamides are polymers formed from the polymerisation of acrylamide. Dermal filler AQUAMID is meant for subcutaneous administration.
Dermal filler AQUAMID is a permanent soft volumizing dermal filler which does not deteriorate over time. As it is mainly composed of water, the polyacrylamide gel is readily accepted by the body. A thin layer of collagen forms around it, surrounding it and helping to keep it in place: the gel’s elasticity allows it to move and behave as though it were a natural part of the body.
Dermal filler AQUAMID is indicated for cheek, jawline, and nose enhancements, to treat deep wrinkles such as Nasolabial Folds, to correct atrophy of the face and the back of the hands, and to aid in restoring volume in cases of HIV-related lipoatrophy. It can also be used for lip augmentation, but it is not indicated for correction of fine wrinkles.
Results of a treatment with dermal filler AQUAMID can be seen the day of treatment. The effects are long-lasting, so touch-ups of the kind necessary for hyaluronic acid-based fillers are not required. However, because there will be a loss of volume when any swelling that initially occurs goes down, it may be necessary for patients to have two to three procedures for an optimal outcome.
Dermal filler AQUAMID is 97.5% sterile water and 2.5% crosslinked polyacrylamide. It comes in a syringe pre-filled with 1 ml of gel. AQUAMID is made by Contura International. Similar to AQUAMID but with a higher viscosity, AQUAMID RECONSTRUCTION is appropriate for the treatment of lipoatrophy or any augmentation that requires a larger volume.
